XC-21 Overhead Line Fault Locator |
The XC-21 Overhead Line Fault Locator operates on the traveling wave principle and provides an accuracy of ±500m. It can be applied to high voltage AC lines from 110-500Kv with the line length up to 600Km to precisely measure the fault location. It can also be used on high voltage DC lines. And it has been successfully installed on the HVDC transmission lines between Shanghai and Gezhouba in China. |

The XC-21 provides three different modes of fault location: single-ended, double-ended and breaker initiated.
For single-ended mode, only one unit XC-21 is needed, the fault distance is proportional to the time interval of fault arc traveling between substation busbar and fault location. Two units of XC-21 and a GPS are needed to allow the XC-21 to operate in a double-ended mode. The fault distance can be calculated by the time to the double ends of the line.
